yay! now journals are working i can finally announce my new comp!!
and the theme is.....
CLOSES FEBRUARY 5th 2006!..... today!!!!
the important bit
Gemstones?
i liked this theme, because there are so many different ways it can be interpreted!
the main three (although obviously not limited to these) are:
-a gemstone is the focus of the piece, either a character is holding one, or maybe its part of a building or something
-the piece is gemstone coloured themed. a piece in red tones and colours can be entered as Ruby, and blue tones piece as Sapphire, green Emerald, get the idea?
-or Gemstones can part of the concept of the piece, a pirate hunting for treasure, an archeolgist digging for ancient gems, a dragon protecting its lair full of precious stones, even the zodiacs - maybe you want to depict a zodiac sign associated with a particular gemstone
the important bit
the rules and stuff
so whats it all about?
well, all you have to do is create an image, related to 'Gemstones' using my stock! simple eh.
ah, so i have to use your stock, does this mean this is a photomanipulation competition?
nope. its open to all artists.
you can use my stock as a reference for a digital or traditional drawing, and it doesnt need to be a photorealistic copy either. it is perfectly acceptable, say, if you were drawing a fairy, and you wanted to use my stock for a reference on her clothing- the pose in the stock is irrelevent.
so can i use other people stocks?
yes, all the other stock you want!
my stock does not have to be the focus of your art either, you can just use it as a minor detail. im quite happy for you to create a scene and just use one of my book stock images as a small detail in the background.
but my stock does have to be clearly visable!
sounds cool, so how do i enter?
can i enter a deviation i have already created?
yes, but it must not have more than 10
and we only get the enter once?
nope, enter as many times as you like! im always adding new stocks so it would be unfair to those who entered earlier if you could only enter once!
so how long to we have to enter?
CLOSES FEBRUARY 5th 2006!
apart from submitting art, is there any other way we can get involved?
yes!
im always looking for those kind souls that are generous enough to donate prizes for the competition
i'l also be on the look out for people to fill positions on my private judging panel
also just generally promoting this competition, mentioning it in your journal, creating stamps for it, anything would be hugely appreciated!
what can i donate as a prize?
dont worry im well aware not everyone i lucky enough to be able to spare subscriptions an prints but there are loadds of other things to offer! perhaps features in your journal? original painting's and other art works, avatar and deviant ID commissions, print products, i.e. magnets, mugs.., private stock photos! commissioned portraits! the chance to be a part of a major art project you are doing (maybe base one of your character or cards on the winner?) do you make jewellery? bath products? there are just sooooo many things!
hopefully i'l be contributing as many as the above listed things as i can! (of course sometimes its going to depend on my print sales / deviant dollar count!)
why get involved? (other than the lovely warm dA spirity feeling you'l get inside?
This competition is going to be huge! last time well over 100 deviants entered and thats a great chance for exposure!
how will the winners be chosen?
there will be three winners (maybe even more if i gather enough prizes!)
- one will be chosen by myself
- one will be decided by an open poll that absolutally everyone in dA can vote in
- one will be chosen by a private panel of judges
so what are the prizes?!!
see here for the full list of features, art, prints, subscriptions, tarot card readings, jewellery, avatars, private stock images, commissions and more!!! (scroll down past entry list!)
do you have a list of all the entries?
yup, see here!

Lionel Hutz: Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."
i just got a grpahics tablet so it might be fun to use it for this!

Remember what Bilbo used to say: It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.
~from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Fellowship of the Ring"
A wonderful theme. I have a dev. I'm making for someone at the moment; as soon as I am finished (which shouldn't be but a couple of more days) I'm getting started. Can't wait to see other entries!
