My life's wish, is to go there once in my life.
It SO reminds me of a "lost" childhood, where nature was in the center of my attention.
Those trees were growing in our garden (later on they would stain the whole ground with their little red berries), and the sight of that road and landscape were but a few footsteps away.
I miss it. :(

Is RAW a modifiying thing for pictures? I'd love to see the "raw" unmodified picture of it. This is a beautiful shot but I have a soft spot for natural pictures. ;l-)

Very Nice .. I used to walk on old dirt roads like that when I was a kid. There were big trees on each side of the road, that were like big towers. Kind a spooky at night. The roads are all pavement now.

I'm kind of surprised you never used RAW before. That said, I'm considering starting to shoot to Jpeg again, as I'm not really that convinced that RAW allows you to do anything Jpeg can't. This was done in Jpeg, for instance (I think you've seen it before), and it was no problem to process it in PS.

All the Adobe Camera RAW functions have an equivalent in PS. As long as you convert it to 16 bit before messing about with it. Otherwise quality suffers. I do almost all of my processing in PS anyway, I was just using ACR to give me an image to start off with.

The trick is to put the camera on the lowest contrast setting in order to get the most dynamic range out of the Jpeg. If the brightness range in the image isn't too big, one can use whatever contrast settings look best .

To my mind, it seems that no meaningful dynamic range is lost when one shoots Jpeg... I mean, sometimes one can claw back a little highlight detail, but you can't get all the colour detail back, and it means one has blown out the image in-camera anyway, which surely we can avoid! No noticeable detail is lost in the whole image, either. So RAW might just be a way to waste more time downloading photos from the camera and messing about on the computer doing a job that the camera can do by itself. Not to mention using up tons of hard drive space.

You might find this article on the issue interesting...

Whoops, I just realised that I rambled on for ages there...

That aside, whereabouts in Northumberland do you live? I'm from just down in Durham, although I live in Cardiff now. I have a friend from Alnmouth, and I remember visiting him around xmas time one year and going down to a frost-covered beach at dawn. It was before I got into photography though! Damn!
